Wellness has become a main topic of media everywhere. There is a wealth of resources available including: magazines, videos, CDs, books of all kinds, websites and newsletters. We have made a modest search of some of the items out there with a view as to what might best meet the needs of Nunavummiut.

Look here to find addresses and useful government information focusing on health in Nunavut.

An extensive interactive website in English and Inuktitut that covers Ilisaqsivik Society programs and general information about wellness for Inuit.

An extensive website on family issues with links to all the major Family Services offices in Canada.

www.childrenshealthcanada.com
This website contains excellent information and links to other sites dealing with children's health and wellness issues.

www.hc-sc.gc.ca
A complex and very useful site dealing with many aspects of wellness in Canada. The A-Z index makes it easy to access many other wellness sites located in Canada. There are good descriptions of programs funded by Health Canada. A special area has been assigned to First Nations and Inuit Health.

Lots of information about suicide prevention and suicide awareness training.

www.turtleisland.org
A well-managed First Nations site with an extensive healing section.

www.canadian-health-network.ca
A huge website containing all kinds of health and wellness information, with links to many other wellness sites in Canada.

Quick educational information about wellness issues. Lists some resources, allows visitors to ask questions.

Aboriginal Nurses of Canada website. An interesting website with resources on Aboriginal Health for Wellness professionals.

Life Now Bookstore
An excellent source of many kinds of wellness books. Many are available on their website at www.lifenow.com. A photo of each book as well as a brief description of its content is given.

Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission
A source of excellent books and pamphlets on addictions and general well being. See their website at www.aadac.com for a list of resources.

Ilisaqasivik Society has published over 50 titles of books, booklets and pamphlets about wellness in Eastern Arctic Inuktitut. Of particular interest is Beginning to Heal, a workbook for survivors of childhood sexual abuse in Inuktitut.

No More HRT. Menopause Treat the Cause, by Dr. Karen Jensen, ND & Lorna R. Vanderhaeghe, BSc . ISBN 0-9731688-0-3, 2002. An excellent resource book on Women's health issues.

Reach for the Rainbow, Advanced Healing for Survivors of Sexual Abuse, by Lynne D. Finney, J.D., M.S.W. , ISBN 0-399-51745-6. Includes a section of excellent self-help techniques.

Boundaries. When to Say Yes , When to Say No, to Take Control of Your Life. By Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.ISBN 0-310-58590-2. A thorough, practical, and easy to read guide to living your life with healthy boundaries in place.

Codependent No More. How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself, by Melody Beattie. ISBN 0-89486-402-5. This is a good starting place for people who are rescuers and supporters of partners or children who are out of control and/or abusive.

You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Haye. Part of a trilogy about restoring balance in your life.

Healing the Shame that Binds You, by John Bradshaw.

Essentials of Human Sexuality, by Rathaus, Nevid and Fichner-Rathus, ISBN 0-205-27255-X. 1998. A concise, straightforward and clearly illustrated resource book on all aspects of human sexuality.

UnHappy Teenagers. A way for parents and teacher to reach them. By William Glasser, M.D., 2002. ISBN 0 06-000798-2. An interesting approach to dealing with teenagers, based on Choice Theory.
